Rookie to GOAT, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Rookie to GOAT web application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

When you create an account and use Rookie to GOAT, we collect the following information:

  • Email address — collected when you sign up with email/password or through Google sign-in.
  • Name — your first and last name, provided when you complete your profile or obtained from your Google account if you sign in with Google.
  • Username — a unique display name you choose for yourself.
  • Profile picture — if you sign in with Google, we receive your Google profile picture.
  • Game results — the scores you record for head-to-head games within your leagues.
  • League information — the names and descriptions of leagues you create.

We do not collect phone numbers, physical addresses, payment information, or any other sensitive personal data. Rookie to GOAT is a free service and does not process any financial transactions.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you visit or use our app, certain information is collected automatically:

  • Device and browser information — such as your browser type, operating system, and screen size.
  • IP address — used for security and to help diagnose technical issues.
  • Usage data — pages you visit within the app, features you use, and general interaction patterns. This is collected through Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to help us improve performance.
  • Cookies — we use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your theme preference (light or dark mode). See Section 5 for more details.

1.3 Information from Third Parties

If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We only receive the information needed to create and maintain your account — we do not access your Google contacts, calendar, or any other Google services.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and run the service — create your account, manage your profile, track your ratings, record game results, and display leaderboards.
  • Calculate ratings — your game results are used to calculate and update your ELO ratings at both the league and global level.
  • Enable league features — allow you to create leagues, invite other players via shareable links, and view league leaderboards and statistics.
  • Communicate with you — send you important service-related messages such as account confirmations, password resets, and security notices.
  • Send promotional emails — we may use your email address to send you updates about new features, tips, and other promotional content related to Rookie to GOAT. You can opt out of these emails at any time (see Section 6).
  • Improve the service — analyze usage patterns and performance data to fix bugs, improve features, and make Rookie to GOAT better for everyone.
  • Ensure security — detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access to the service.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Period.

We share your information only in the following limited ways:

  • With other players in your leagues — your username, game results, and ratings are visible to other members of leagues you belong to. Your email address is never shared with other players.
  • Service providers — we use trusted third-party services to operate Rookie to GOAT, LLC. These providers only access your data as needed to perform their services and are required to protect it:
    • Supabase — hosts our database and handles authentication (sign-up, sign-in, password resets).
    • Google — provides the "Sign in with Google" authentication option.
    • Vercel — hosts the web application and provides anonymous analytics and performance monitoring.
  • Legal requirements — we may share your information if required by law, such as in response to a court order, subpoena, or similar legal process.
  • Business transfers — if Rookie to GOAT, LLC is acquired or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We would notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously. We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including:

  • All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/SSL).
  • Passwords are hashed — we never store your password in plain text.
  • Our database uses row-level security, meaning users can only access data they are authorized to see.
  • Authentication tokens and sessions are managed securely through Supabase.

While we work hard to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to following best practices to keep your data safe.

5. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies to make the app work properly:

  • Authentication cookies — keep you signed in so you don't have to log in every time you visit.
  • Theme preference cookie — remembers whether you prefer light or dark mode.

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies from third-party ad networks. Vercel Analytics collects usage data without using cookies and does not track individual users across websites.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have control over your personal information:

  • Access and update your data — you can view and edit your profile information (name, username) at any time from your Profile page.
  • Opt out of promotional emails — every promotional email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can opt out at any time. This will not affect service-related communications (like password resets).
  • Delete your account — you can request deletion of your account and all associated personal data by contacting us. We will process your request promptly and remove your personal information from our systems.
  • Data portability — you can request a copy of your personal data in a commonly used format by contacting us.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or another region with data protection laws, you may have additional rights under applicable law, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Data Retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the service. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory reasons.

Game results and rating history may be retained in anonymized form (without personally identifying information) for statistical purposes after account deletion.

8. Children's Privacy

Rookie to GOAT is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be stored and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where our service providers operate. By using Rookie to GOAT, you agree to the transfer of your information to these countries. We ensure that any transfers comply with applicable data protection laws.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, regulatory, or operational reasons. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of the service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
